I. Breeding-book

There is only one Westphalian breeding-book, which is located at Münster and is kept in
accordance with the provisions of the breeding-book regulations of the Westphalian
Horse Breeders Association. Sire and dam of the foals who are to be brandmarked with
the Westphalian brandmark, or for which a pedigree-paper is to be issued, must be
registered in the breeding book, no matter where they may be located.
II. Registration of foals & mare
Foals can be registered (foalbrand and pedigree-paper), if either the dam and/or the sire
has Westphalian pedigree-papers. In any case the sire has to be licensed by a German
Warmblood Association and he must have successfully passed the stallion approval test in
Germany. In exceptional cases the stallion approval test in U.S.A. can be accepted.
Besides Westphalian mares, other warmblood and Thoroughbred mares can be registered
and accepted as a broodmare for the Westphalian Association if they are of outstanding
quality.

We encourage you to read the story of Alec Lawler, published in SF Weekly - a renowned show jumping rider.
